Ciro Immobile |
Lazio striker, Ciro Immobile has expressed his feeling for becoming the top goalscorer in Europe this season surpassing the likes of Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, and Juventus frontman Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 30-year-old finds it crazy that he fended off Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Lewandowski to finish the season with the Golden Shoe.
The award goes to the highest goalscorer in Europe’s top domestic leagues, and Immobile’s 36 goals from 37 games in Serie A saw off all-comers as Lawandowski scored 34 goals, Ronaldo 31 goals, and Messi 25 goals.
Immobile, produced the best form of his life with Lazio last season as the club finished fourth in Serie A, five points behind champions Juventus.
The Italy international who thanked his teammates for making this possible said that it’s crazy as he can not believe he could interrupt the Messi-Ronaldo duet.
“It’s crazy, me in front of Ronaldo and Lewandowski. If I reread the roll of honour, I almost don’t believe it: Messi, Messi, (Luis) Suarez, Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Messi, Messi, Ronaldo, Messi.“I interrupted the Leo-Cristiano duet. For this I thanked the team, it was the least I could do,” he said.
This burgeoning news platform learned that fourteen of Immobile’s goals were penalties, while Ronaldo and Messi netted 12 and 5 penalties each during the campaign.
Lewandowski netted just five spot-kicks among his 34 goals for Bayern Munich, and many feel he has shown himself to be Europe’s leading striker rather than Immobile.
